Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, Barbados, Rihanna auditioned for American record producer Evan Rogers who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. She was signed to Def Jam in 2005 and soon became a household name following the release of her debut two studio albums, Music of the Sun (2005), and A Girl Like Me (2006). Both were influenced by Caribbean music and reached the top ten spot on the US Billboard 200 charts. Rihanna's third album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), incorporated elements of dance music and established her as a sex icon in the world of music. Rihanna's debut Grammy Award was won for her hit song "Umbrella" that catapulted Rihanna to international stardom. Rihanna continued to blend pop, dance and R&B genres on her next album, which included Rated R (2009) Loud (2010), Talk That Talk (2011), and Unapologetic (2012) The last of which became her first Billboard 200 number one. The albums spawned a string of chart-topping singles including "Rude Boy", "Only Girl (In the World)", "What's My Name? ", "S&M", "We Found Love" & "Diamonds". Anti (2016) was her eighth album. It showcased her new creative control after she left Def Jam. The album was ranked at number 2 in the US and featured "Work" which was her top charting single. In her career, Rihanna has collaborated with several artists, including Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Ne-Yo and Shakira. Rihanna is the second-most-sold female musician in the world having sold more than 250 million albums sold across the world. Her hits include 14 number one singles, 31 top-10 singles in the US and 30 top-10 entries in the UK. She has received nine Grammy Awards, thirteen American Music Awards (including Icon Award) and 12 Billboard Music Awards and six Guinness World Records. She was also awarded the NAACP's President's Award. Time classified her among the top 100 most influential persons in the world in 2012 and in 2018.
