Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. She is the creator and director-general of Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women in pop stories of culture. In her efforts to break down stereotypes of women that exist in pop culture, she has also been working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and others on the internet. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. In addition to being a well-known public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender and feminism since an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while still a student at the University. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the representation of gender in video games, she was targeted by the internet campaign. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. It only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminists are recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and founded Feminist Frequency. The educational non-profit explores the role of women within the popular culture stories.
